The School of Science and Technology (SST) at Knutsford University's overall aim is providing broad-based education to Computer Science students to produce graduates that will be equipped to apply best practices in software design, research and implementation to a wide range of software and computer systems in organizations.
The Knutsford School of Science and Technology forms part of the three Schools of the University College that offers students the opportunity to discover and fulfill their potentials in various fields of science. The School currently has two departments with existing and new academic programs geared towards preparing the students for careers in this changing national and international world. The departments under the School are as follows:
The Department of Computer Science runs BSc Computer Science. The Bachelors programme under the mentorship of the University of Ghana, with plans underway to mount a Master’s program in Information Technology. The programmes currently being offered are as follows:
BSc Computer Science (CS)
The Bachelors programme in Computer Science has been run by the department since 2008, with an overall aim of providing broad-based education to Computer Science students to produce graduates that will be equipped to apply best practices in software design, research, and implementation to a wide range of software and computer systems in organizations. More specifically, the programme aims at developing technical competencies in the areas of Software Programming, Software Design, and Development, Databases and Database Management, Data Networks and Communication, Operating Systems, Computer Security, Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, and Design Science Research.
The Bachelors programme in Information Technology has been run by the department since 2011, and aims at producing competent graduates to deal with the current and emerging technological complexities in industry and in their communities. Graduates are expected to recognize opportunities and develop appropriate IT solutions that seek to address a particular issue. The programme also aims to develop technical competencies in the area of Software Development, Databases and Database Management, Networking, IT Security, Entrepreneurship, and IT Project Management.
The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences currently runs a Bachelors program in Nursing. This programme (also affiliated to the University of Ghana) is the latest addition to the School’s growing list of programmes, and has been mounted primarily to accommodate the national demand for degree programmes in Nursing by training world-class health care professionals and academics.
The Bachelors programme in Nursing broadly aims at achieving the following:
Enabling students to provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and Programmes.
Developing students’ knowledge and skills in providing nursing care based on steps of the nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups.
Preparing students to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses to provide promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services
With its well-resourced library and laboratory, together with its highly experienced teaching staff, the Nursing programme seek to offer the best tuition in Ghana making it the preferred destination for candidates wanting to study nursing.
